In support of the RNLI’s fundraising appeal to obtain a brand new state of the art Shannon Class lifeboat for Wells-Next-The-Sea, The Real Ale Shop has teamed up with Wagtail Brewery to bring you The ‘Shout’, a strong, heartwarming ale to return home to! For every bottle of The ‘Shout’ that we sell, we will make a donation to the appeal, running until late in 2015.
This new equipment will undoubtedly help to save countless more lives and we are proud to support such a brave and vital crew – Teddy, founder and owner of The Real Ale Shop is a keen sailor himself. In 2013 alone the Wells Lifeboat Crew rescued 26 people and spent over 870 crew hours at sea.
The ‘Shout’ is available in the shop and on the ales we stock page.
Press release from Wells Lifeboat:
The Real Ale Shop at Branthill Farm, Wells-next-the-Sea has offered to help the Wells Lifeboat Crew by organising a competition amongst local brewers to brew a beer especially for the New Shannon Lifeboat Appeal. Local brewers Wagtail Brewery, Why Not Brewery, Elmtree Brewery and Panther Brewery have each submitted beers that they hope will be awarded the “Shannon Ale” title by the Wells Lifeboat Crew.
The winning beer will be available for sale at the Real Ale Shop from mid November and £1 from the sale of every bottle will be donated to the appeal.
You are invited to the official judging which will take place at The Real Ale Shop on Thursday 23rd October at 6pm at The Real Ale Shop, Branthill Farm, Wells-next-the-Sea, NR23 1SB.
Wells Lifeboat are due to replace their Mersey class lifeboat with the latest Shannon class in 2016. The new lifeboat will cost in excess of £2M of which £250,000 has to be raised locally over the next 14months. So far over £51,000 has been raised since the appeal started in June this year.
Harvesting Maris Otter barley at Branthill Farm
Harvest is in full swing here at Branthill Farm, with the Maris Otter barley looking to be a fine crop this year. It looks like the breweries will have another year’s supply of some of the finest malting barley to brew some of the finest real ales in the coming 12 months!
The Real Ale Shop will be open every day until Father’s Day (June 15th), and there is still plenty of time to order your case of real ale for delivery to be delivered before that weekend.
In the shop we have gift packs of 3, 4, 6 and 12 bottles or you can chose your own bespoke selection to personalise your Father’ Day gift to the man himself. Online you can order our Classic Traleblazer Case, or you can call us in the shop on 01328 710 810 to discuss a personalised selection. (Due to packaging constraints and security of your order, we cannot send out orders of less than 6 bottles.)
Village Life (4.8% ABV) – JOINT WINNER of our 10th birthday competition. Crafted from toasted malts and buckets of fresh, whole hops, Village Life has a perfect balance of well-hopped bitterness and ‘fresh-baked’ malt character.
East Coast IPA (7.0% ABV, 660ml bottle) – JOINT WINNER of our 10th birthday competition. A dedication to the beautiful Norfolk coastline, East Coast IPA is a real summer delight, putting Branthill Farm’s premium malt to the test against an ocean of hops!
Norfolk Square Brewery
Black Widow Reserve (12% ABV, 330ml bottle) – A reserve of the 9% Black Widow: a full bodied imperial stout aged in port steeped oak giving loads of coffee, cocoa and subtle Port notes.
Mad Maudie (4.5% ABV) – A straw coloured summer ale with a fresh and tangy combination of hops.
Hoxne Brewery – Not strictly Norfolk (Suffolk to be exact) but we decided to make an exception for this exciting new brewery using Branthill Farm’s own malted barley. “Life’s too short… to drink cheap beer!”
Heritage (6.0% ABV) – A traditional ‘Old Ale’ with everything that you could expect from this class of ale!
Brakey Wood (5.6% ABV) – A truly deep and classy India Pale Ale full of hops and vitality.
Congratulations to Beeston Brewery and Poppyland Brewery for winning our 10th Anniversary competition! It was tough decision for the judges with nine fantastic ales from nine premier Norfolk breweries taking part but they finally settled on Beeston’s ‘Village Life‘ and Poppyland’s ‘East Coast IPA‘ as joint winners. Both ales are now available to buy at The Real Ale Shop.
Beeston – Village Life (4.8% ABV) is crafted from toasted malts and buckets of fresh, whole hops, perfectly balanced between well-hopped bitterness and ‘fresh-baked’ malt character.
Poppyland – East Coast IPA (7.0% ABV) is a dedication to the beautiful Norfolk coastline and is a real summer delight, putting Branthill Farm’s premium malt to the test against an ocean of hops!
We would also like to thank everyone who came and celebrated our tenth birthday with us here at The Real Ale Shop over the last weekend of May, and all the brewers who entered our competition.
